Converting slow cooker recipes to oven

1 reply

Ok, I know this is the wrong way round...

Basically I had a slow cooker, never used it so gave it away. About 1 month later I learned to cook. Now I've see all these amazing dishes for slow cooker recipes, and no slow cooker to cook it in.

Don't really have the kitchen space for a slow cooker ('tis tiny) so surely it must be possible to convert a recipe for oven cooking as well. How would I go about doing that? I have a casserole dish. Also, would the electricity costs be stupidly higher having the oven on rather than a slow cooker?

It's going to cost you more in electricity running the oven but it can be done. I think the conversion is as follows;
For LOW settings 1/4 of the time at 160c
For MEDIUM 1/3 of the time at 160c
For HIGH 1/2 of the time at 160c
To be on the safe side brown any meat first before putting in the casserole dish.
