Question about defrosting prawns

Mosschops30 · 19/08/2013 22:00

I have frozen raw prawns, it says to defrost leave on a plate 2-3 hours before use.
But this isn't practical
Can I take them out the freezer in the morning and leave them in the fridge all day to defrost?

Yes, as long as they are not frozen. You can also run them under a cold water tap (don't immerse in the water and leave though as they will make the water cold so won't defrost them), usually takes 15 mins depending on the size of the prawns. Please don't run them under a hot tap to defrost though, it only defrosts the outside so causes food poisoning.

Ok so I can leave them in a bowl in the fridge and if they're not quite defrosted can run under the tap??

I always use the "under running water " technique (in a sieve in the sink)

Yup. They really won't take very long. Smile
