Will this be ok to eat?

I have some individual packs of houmous in the fridge, use by date is today, 18th. I am loathe to waste them and wondered if they are likely to be OK if I send one with DS in his lunch box tomorrow?

I don't want to make him ill, but can't help but feel they're ridiculously over cautious about use by dates.

Although you might want to decant it into another pot - I have heard of over-zealous dinner ladies 'confiscating' food that is past it's sell by date .

I have just checked with DS, who is 12 and they don't police lunches at his school, so I think he'll be safe.
