painting flowers on sugarpaste

Hi, i want to paint some flowers directly onto sugarpaste, can anyone offer some tips? Best food colouring to use? any books that describe the technique? etc. I'm going for a freehand style ala Nevie-Pie cakes. I know she has an online tutorial but that's last resort as cash is low . Mich Turner's bees tutorial on youtube wasn't what i was after. thanks in advance

Have you tried a good set of edible ink pens? I find them easier to use for smaller and more detailed decorating. I'm not very good at painting, hopefully someone else will be able to offer some better advice.
