Anyone do a monthly shop?

I'm thinking of swapping from a fortnightly shop to a monthly shop so I don't go to the supermarket so much and just top up fresh things. Does anyone do this and how do you find it works?

I'm also not sure I could manage a month of meal plans, I really struggle to do two weeks without just repeating some of the last two weeks or making lots of the same meals. How do you get around that?

have you got a big freezer/fridge/cupboard space? I used to store a load of things such as juice cartons in the garage. ref meal plans - i would just get a load of things that you can do a variety of meals with, eg chicken portions, or minced beef. i used to do a large shop covering a number of weeks - wasn't as scientific as monthly.

its the fruit i struggled with most. bread i used a bread machine and also froze loafs.

I don't have a chest freezer, don't meal plan that much, but do a monthly online shop for all the cereal and long life milk and juice, mainly. We do eat a lot of similar dinners as DP cooks about 4 different meals with minor variations, but ds is a very fussy eater anyway and dd is happy with anything.

I suppose it comes down to how often you want to top up and how much difference there is between that and a 'big' supermarket shop - surely if you're in the shop already there's little difference?
