a cup is an actual measure, (usually used in USA) sometimes you'll find your measuring jug will have cups on as it's obviously a unit of volume rather than weight.
But here's my mum's cheese straw recipe!

4 oz SR flour
2 oz butter or marg
pinch salt
2 large handfuls of grated cheddar cheese, the stronger the better
pinch salt
water to mix
parmesan if you have it

Basically you make pastry but with cheese in:
Add salt to flour, then rub in the fat.
Tip in the cheese.
Mix to pastry consistency with room temp water.
Roll out and sprinkle it all with grated parmesan before you cut it, or a little bit of cheddar maybe
Cut into strips and put on greased baking sheet

200/400/gas 6 for about 10-15 mins but keep an eye on them as they will suddenly be done!

Sometimes I press in the grated cheese on top then when it's cut into strips I twist each one before cooking.

enjoy!

As kitbit says, it's really just pastry with cheese in. I do 200g plain flour to 100g butter and a chunk of really tasty cheddar. I find they can be a bit bland so I have successfully added in the past 1 tbsp hummous, or better still; instead of binding with water use 1 egg with a good tsp marmite beaten in. You do have to mix the egg and marmite well but it gives a savoury bite.
God I'm hungry!
