is it philadelphia type soft cheese? i've just been reading that thread on carnation milk and now i'd really like to make a cheesecake for dh; he loves it and has been away for a few days and i'll feel really good making it for him . there was a link for lemon cheesecake which looks easy enough even for me. i've got everything i need in the cupboard already except for the lemon and the carnation (and the cream cheese if it turns out not to be philadelphia..)

philly makes good cheesecakes IMO .. add a teaspoon of custard powder .. really yummy

but there is a 'cream cheese' you can buy from delis which tastes completely different

You can get proper cream cheese from grocery stores here, too - there's one you can get from Waitrose, anyway, it's much fluffier than philadelphia. But I'm sure most Yanks make cheese cake with philly, so I'm sure it's fine.

(You can also make cheesecake with mascarpone.)
