How the heck will I do it?

Quick google and I cant see an easy tutorial or any cutters.

I'm also making a buddha.

This should be a fun cake to make not

Ha ha Mike, you do like your ambitious projects dont you? but i have no idea on this one, isnt it like a lilly flower for a pind or am i barking up the wrong tree?

nannycook · 30/07/2013 20:55

Pond even.

Forgetfulmog · 30/07/2013 21:03

From what I can tell its basically a Waterlily & I know you can get cutters for that.

blueberryboybait · 30/07/2013 21:03

This is a fantastic PDF of old notes - lotus is a few pages down. here

Forgetfulmog · 30/07/2013 21:05

What's the design then, a big cake with the lotus flowers & Buddha on top? Is there a Buddha mould you can buy?

Forgetfulmog · 30/07/2013 21:06

does this help?

blueberryboybait · 30/07/2013 21:08

TinkerTech does a waterlily cutter not sure if that will work.

MikeLitoris · 30/07/2013 21:20

I turn the pc off and you lot pop up Grin

I will try to post the pic I was send for inspiration.

Its all flat but I wanted to do 3d flowers as a 3d buddha is a bit beyond me.

Will look at the links in the morning now. Thanks.

She wants white and gold and it to be a bit more jazzed up.

I haven't mentioned 3d flowers so she wont be disappointed if I dont manage it.

This looks pretty easy (ha!)

Looks like a normal leaf cutter with the tips pointed a bit.

Argh! I want to go and get the fondant out and practice

OP posts:
Forgetfulmog · 30/07/2013 21:54

Do it!

MikeLitoris · 31/07/2013 11:54

Had a quick go with this morning. It was ok with the leaf cutters. Mine are the serrated ones though and I think it will be much better with proper flower paste.

Im off to the cake decorating place in a bit so hopefully they will have some goodies to help me.

Mike, I have been using sainsburys flower paste for practice runs of flowers, it is on offer atm for 2 or £4 for 250g packs. Saves me a fortune when trying to get things right.

MikeLitoris · 31/07/2013 14:29

Well I didnt know sainsbos did their own flower paste.

Guess I'll be shopping there this week Grin

I didnt get any leaf cutter but I did finally get a small peony cutter.

Looks like I may be getting a bit side tracked. Oops.

Oh, and I also forgot to say I'm doing a tardis came this week.

Any tips?

OP posts:
blueberryboybait · 31/07/2013 15:20

The last tardis I made, I made the sides weeks before (1/2 and 1/2 flower paste and sugarpaste) and dried them then just attached them to the cake with butter cream. I made the top separately on a board so I could cover it as one piece then stood it on the cake before I put the dry sides on. I followed this roughly and without the electrics! I also sent it off for DH to deliver and he forgot to take pictures! I may have cried and yelled a little!

MikeLitoris · 31/07/2013 23:10

Shock that cake is insane! I love it.

I no longer want to make a tardis because it will be nowhere near that one Envy

I was planning on printing out a paper tardis, the kind you assemle, and using that as a guide. I got a load of sugar paste today and will do the panels tomorrow. Assemble friday nihjt.

Hopefully not so humid by then. I"ve just finished a choc 21 cake and the buttercream was sliding off the cake as I was doing it. Not good.

Tardis cake is almost done. Just finishing touches.

Im not anticipating it lasting til the morning if im honest. It seems a bit saggy. I knew I should have waited until morning to piece it together :(

MikeLitoris · 02/08/2013 21:53

And that pic makes it look really squat. It isnt at all.

OP posts:
blueberryboybait · 02/08/2013 21:56

Looks amazing Mike.

nannycook · 02/08/2013 22:00

Thats fab Mike, your so clever! What size is it then?

MikeLitoris · 02/08/2013 22:20

Its 5 inch x about 10in tall.

Didnt plan on it being so tall. Calculations went wrong somewhere!

The humidity has really been a pain. The sides just would not dry.

All in all I am very happy with it. I just hope it lasts the night.

Thanks both.

Sainsbury's flower paste, huh?

I like the idea of stuck on panels for the tardis. I might do that for DS.
