Picnic ideas for a ( hot) day on the beach

I' m hoping to go to the beach on Saturday. What can I pack that will stand up to the heat? I'm thinking pasta, cooked sausages, I ' ll make some madeleines but I suspect salads are out as they'll just wilt. Any other ideas? Also, without shelling out on a cool box, how else can you keep food cool - isn? Do those M&S cool carrier bags work? I mean the ones that arepadded with some insulating type matter. Thanks.

I wouldn't risk keeping food in a cool carrier bag in these high temperatures. You can buy a 24 or 30 litre cool box in Tesco £10 box
or
£14 box

Freeze the water/drink bottles and wrap in plastic bags to help keep the contents cold. Put some cold wet flannels in too for sticky car journeys.

Thanks jamnan didn t know you could get them at these prices. I'd only looked in Lakeland.

I'd go for vegetarian food in this heat, and agree with freezing some things to keep everything cool. You can freeze bread, pasta, some fruit (mango is good, blueberries, things with lower water content.) I'd take snacks as heavy food and meat may not be tempting unless you cool down first and eat in the shade.
