Mine has just broken, I cannot bear the thought of being without one for long Wink
Would you recommend yours?

My last one was a Zyliss one, that you don't need to peel the garlic first. Just bung it in and squish.
But, it's just completely sheared, and I've noticed recently that the non-stick is coming off, so going into our food, neither of which make me lean towards Zyliss in the future

Anyone? Thanks :)

Do zyliss make a stainless steel version - dh put ours in the dishwasher and it was ruined.

clearsommespace · 05/07/2013 19:21

I have one from Ikea which is really easy to clean. You have to peel the garlic though.

Growlithe · 05/07/2013 19:23

This has served me well for years, I always put it in the dishwasher too. ikea

kefybaby · 05/07/2013 19:24

Do garlic presses actually work?! I have bought a couple in the past and most of the garlic stays in. I am back at crushing and chopping garlic cloves but would love a press that actually does the job.

SanityClause · 05/07/2013 19:31

I have one of these.

It minces the garlic really fine, but you have to peel them first.

HuevosRancheros · 05/07/2013 19:36

Kefybaby, I was really really happy with my Zyliss one until my disaster this evening. Very little wastage.
Gowlithe, that Ikea one looks good, and cheap! They are selling it on Amazon at a massive mark-up! Ikea says it 'copes with unpeeled cloves as well'...... have you tried?
Sanity, that looks really interesting, never seen one like that. The website says it 'crushes and peels' garlic, so mybe you don't need to peel it first? Have you tried?

Sorry, just can't be doing with peeling garlic! Not doubting you, just wonder ifbthe manufacturers are overambitious!

Thanks :)

I hate peeling it too! I will give the ikea one a go next time I go to ikea.

charitygirl · 05/07/2013 19:39

I just grate cloves (unpeeled - the skin comes off but doesn't get grated in) on a Microplane fine grater - more multipurpose (best zester ever) and easier washing up

HuevosRancheros · 05/07/2013 19:42

But don't you get really stinky fingers, charity? My main reason for not wanting to peel or chop.....

SanityClause · 05/07/2013 19:42

It doesn't peel, I'm afraid. You put the peeled cloves in and twist it back and forth until it is finely minced, so if you didn't peel them, your finely minced garlic would have finely minced peel in it.

LongWayRound · 05/07/2013 19:45

I have this WMF garlic press. I like it, but you do have to peel the garlic. Also works well with fresh ginger.

LaVitaBellissima · 05/07/2013 19:47

I have one from pampered chef that is brilliant, got it at a party you can stick the whole lot in, it's brilliant!

Growlithe · 05/07/2013 20:14

Yes, the Ikea one works with unpeeled cloves. It's great - really strong too.

LoveBeingUpAt4InTheMorning · 05/07/2013 20:17

You have to get mine, it's one that you roll on the wheels it is a mazing

CMP69 · 06/07/2013 18:12

Pampered Chef do one like the Zylis one and the silver doesn't come off :-)

HuevosRancheros · 06/07/2013 19:18

Thanks all :)
Think I will give the Ikea one a go, as it is dirt cheap, and I had already convinced myself I needed to go next week...
The Pampered Chef one looks good, but more ££, will bear it in mind if Ikea can't cut it
4inthemorning, yours sounds exciting, do you know the brand?

I have the pampered chef one too. Best ever for not needing to peel plus the little scraper/comb thing is fab so no nasty bits stuck in the holes.
