Milkshake....

I am 16 weeks pregnant and I. Need. Milkshake. Wink The supermarket ones are full of yuk, and the one that really hits the spot - Cafe Nero mint - is quite pricey.
So how do you make it? Is it just milk, icecream and optional fruit? Any favourite recipes?
Thanks!

I just bung in fruit and a banana and/or ice cream. Frozen berries seem to work well if you don't have any fresh fruit to hand.

Not sure how you would make the mint choc one though, maybe stick an aero and some milk in the blender...Smile

Whizz fruit and milk/yogurt and ice cream with a stick blender. Frozen fruit is good as are bananas with chocolate ice cream syrup. Good way to use up the softer fruit too.

We always do banana, milk and yoghurt plus some colourful soft fruits.

Try to think how you might do a chocolate one - I would probably melt some chocolate (and some instant coffee?) in milk and add it. If you have lots of other cold things it might be OK. Top with mint leaves. Wink

Actually that sounds rather nice. May try it myself.

My favourites are milk, ice cream, banana and peanut butter (maybe not if you're pg though!)

and milk, ice cream, half a packet of Oreos (DP's downfall!)

Also smoothies with fruit juice instead of the milk, I keep berries in the freezer so they don't go off and they thicken the smoothie. Strawberry, blueberry and banana with apple juice is nice, add a squeeze of lime if its a bit bland.

I also love making pretend mojitos, with crushed ice, lime (juice & sweetener or squash) and mint leaves topped up with fizzy water - very refreshing for the summer.

Is it like a mint chocolate? I'd use some good quality cocoa or powdered choc mix with a small amount of water to dissolve and whizz it with the milk and some mint leaves.

Adding ice cream would be yummy too :)

We freeze bananas chopped and ready to go for smoothies. Love using other frozen fruit and ice cream or frozen yogurt of various flavours.

Ooh some lovely suggestions here, thanks! Peanut butter and chocolate icecream would be good (peanuts are ok now for pregnant women!)

Yes, it's a kind of chocolate mint, but more minty than chocolatey. I'm thinking maybe if I got some mint choc chip icecream...?

Do the Oreos not go really sludgey?

I can see this weekend is going to be largely dedicated to the making and consuming of milkshakes! This baby will have strong bones...

If you want a mint chocolate milkshake I have to recommend trying milk, ice cream, and a good handful of after eight mints in a blender!

TotallyEggFlipped · 03/07/2013 06:18

I just thought of after eights & remembered this thread, but Daysies beat me to it.
If you wanted a crunchy version a bit like mint choc chip ice cream, you could try mint matchmakers or those other after dinner mints - Benedicts?

TotallyEggFlipped · 03/07/2013 06:25

Or just look here for inspiration.

Oooh, there is one of those down the road from my office I have just discovered... Thanks everyone!
