Introducing protein and dropping milk

I'm about to start introducing protein and have read that my dd shouldn't be given milk at the same time as it inhibits iron absorbtion. At the moment her day is as follow:

8am milk + breakfast
11.30ish vegtables + milk
3pm milk
5pm fruit and baby rice
6.45 milk and then bed time

She will sip water at luch time with her veg but will cry for her milk about 10-15 minutes later. I don't want to force her to go until 3pm before milk so can it be offered say half hour after the protein lunch if she wants it or should I persevere and just keep offering the water?

Hi,

My advice would be to drop the 11.30 milk and increase the veg and maybe add some protein the form of cheese, if she needs more ater that maybe give her some natural yogurt. How old is she?

She was 24 weeks yesterday and has been on veg and rice/fruit for about 6 weeks. I have stocked up on natural and greek yoghurt so will try her with some of that after her veg.

Funnily enough, my first dish was going to be her usual potato and broccoli but with a cheese sauce, so fingers crossed. I suppose it's just a case of see how she goes.

Thanks for the reply.

missp - I don't think you should worry too much about protein and iron - there is some evidence apparently that soy protein inhibits iron absorption but you are not presumably using soy protein.
IME milk feeds should still be given with solds until your baby is having 3 full meals a day, then you can replace the milk feeds with water or whatever. I would let her have her milk as normal.
