Frozen fruit salad question.

Hi.
I'm having a pucnic for my dd's third birthday next weekend but won't have much time on the day to prepare the food.
There will be at least ten kids and loads of adults to feed.
I thought a huge carved out watermelon filled with fruit salad would look nice and be really fresh.

My question is if I can make the whole thing and freeze it.
What type of fruit will freeze well? Maybe bananas and cherries?

I'd like to be able to take it out of the freezer just before we leave so it's just cold by the time we eat it. (we live in Spain so hopefully the weather will be quite warm on the day)

Any tips would be much appreciated, thanks!

Fruit unless it's frozen incredibly fast (like in a factory) will probably lose all cell structure and therefore look quite unappealing and will have a strange texture. I wouldn't do it personally, sorry.

No, sorry you really can't freeze fruit unless its berries that you actually want mushy.

The only thing I could suggest is to chill the watermelon, then fill it with already (bought) frozen berries, which will then defrost and be fairly mushy but OK to eat. But generally fruit doesn't freeze well at all. If you have a cold box, how about watermelon slices on sticks?

Thanks a lot for replying.
Watermelon on sticks sounds much better. I'm sure I could prepare that the day before and keep it in the fridge. We've got some really nice cherries in season over here at the moment so maybe I could just put out a basket of cherries!
The theme of the party is the Wizard of Oz (dd's request) I suppose a basket of red red apples would fit in with the theme and make my life much easier!

Thanks again. Good job I checked before wasting all that fruit!
