Is it okay or should I sling it?

My mother in law randomly brought me a vacuum packed raw ham hock on Saturday. Due to a bit of a family crisis I completely forgot it was in the bottom of the fridge. It doesn't have a use by date on it.

What are the chances its ok to eat now? I hate waste, but am not a fan of food poisoning either!

I haven't opened it to sniff it yet (hate the smell of gone off pig) but it looks okay, no change in appearance. I'm aware that looks can be deceiving though!

Should be fine.
Open it.
Run it under the tap and then sniff it, then cook it, then sniff it again.
Where'd your MIL buy it?
Sure it'll be fine.
(Caveat: I am a bit cavalier about this kind of thing)

Sniff it BUT leave the pack open for a bit first, anything vac packed smells minging upon first opening.

I would use it if it smells and looks good.

Not sure where she bought it, but probably the independent butcher on our local market (fixed stall, proper refrigerated storage/counters).

I shall do the sniff test, thanks. Hoping because it's still a lovely fresh colour it won't smell like death and all bad things lol!
