What does your 1 yr old have for breakfast?

dd currently still having creamed oat porridge (baby food, packet) want to move her on to cereal not sure what to do. Weetabix has glucose syrup in!

what does your 1 yr old have?

need soemhtign low salt, low sugar, easy to prepare, and not too high in fibre as wee ones cant digest it too well...

Weetabix or Ready Brek here. But put dried prunes/apricots in it.

I used to give my ds warm shreddies, they go all mushy if your dd isn't great with lumps on a spoon. If she is then serve sooner so they are less soggy.

DS (nearly 2) has porridge, Weetabix, Shreddies, Rice Crispies, Ready Brek, toast, fruit, yoghurts (obviously not all at the same time!)

mine wont eat cereal. she has an avocado and a banana sometimes followed by bacon and beans and some dry cheerios depending on her mood.

Cereal was never very popular in our house so I just used to give any nutritious foods that ds liked at the time. It's just a convention to have 'breakfast foods' - there's the same nutrition in a cheese sandwich as in a bowl of cereal and milk. He used to like baked beans, scrambled egg, hummus on toast, even homemade pizza. It doesn't matter if it seems strange to have it for breakfast as long as they are getting energy and enjoying the meal, IMO :)

thanks for that, i was feeling a bit crap mum about not being able to get either of mine to eat cereal.

My dd goes through phases at the moment its bran flakes with a chopped banana. Previously its been porridge that I make and add either one of those organic fruit puree things to it or a grated apple or pineapple pieces in juice.
She also likes toast marmite and scrambled egg! Usually I just ask her what she fancies .

my ds1 and ds2 love it, and it is low fat, no added sugar or salt- just proper food, no additives and crap that all the cereas aimed at children have

ds (just turned 1) has a couple of chunks of banana (while I get everything else ready), a couple of strips of toast and jam, and half a weetabix mixed with yoghurt or pureed fruit. sometimes ready brek instead of weetabix.

my dd when she was younger used to eat all sorts for brekkie, weetabix, porridge, fruit, yoghurt, toast, teacakes, crumpets, and then still want saus, baked beans, egg, of course not all at once etc

DS(14 mnths) has half ready brek half porridge mix with a soaked dried prune or apricot.Or a mashed banana,yoghurt and soaked dried prune/apricot.

proper oat porridge, soaked overnight and heated up in the morning. me and DH have it too. Yummy and couldn't be easier.

she only eat dry cereals (no milk) or otherwise she wont eat it

Ds not too keen on weetabix anymore. I agree that most cereals aren't great healthwise apart from porrige but tbh I hate porrige myself unless it has lots of golden syrup on it , ds doesn't like it much either. Weetabix is probably the best of the cereals as it doesn't have much sugar or salt.

Ds tends to have any combination of the following depending how much time I have and what is in the house.

cheese (cut up into bits)

cut up fruit (pears/apples, bananas)

pieces of toast with avocado or butter or soft cheese spread on

Pot of pureed fruit (He still loves these)

Plain yoghurt mixed with pureed fruit (he's not so keen on this any more)

Eggy bread

Scrambled eggs (done in micrwave with cheese in so very quick) or omlette

Breakfast is not his best meal though, he tends not to eat very much in the morning, though he is then usually starving by about 10am and has a big snack then.

Oh also he has bits of ham sometimes but I only started giving him that in the last month and only occasionally as it is a bit salty and has too many presrvatives for my taste. He likes it though!!

Mine love coco pops, frosties, or even better, chocolate coated frosties!!

My ds (19 months) has 1 weetabix with milk (and some liquid vitamins slipped in), 1 or 2 large bananas, packet of raisins and 2 pieces of (wholemeal)toast with marmite. SOunds a lot but sometimes he won't really eat for the rest of the day and this keeps him going - he has eating problems and breakfast is his best meal.

Fruit is allways good but in our house nothing beats a bacon sarnie or egg on toast.

This may not sound nice but actually tastes fab. Get some bread, soak in warm milk and honey then add some puree or cubes of fav fruit. Honestly it taste yummy.

(I hate it myself - my mum tried to make me eat it when I was ill and I could never see the point - would rather have had the same stuff but as a honey sandwich and a glass of milk)

Cheerios or shreddies

Mainly porridge (mixture of oat and millet) with apricot and apple puree. Or weetabix and banana - with soya milk plus toast soldiers with tahini or nut butter on. Have just made up a batch of museli in food processor (oatmeal, wheat bran, pumpkin and sunflower seeds) and added chopped dried fruit, tried it on DD and she loved it!
