5-day old chicken risotto?

Roasted a chicken Sat lunch. Used the leftover chicken to make a risotto on Mon. What do you reckon to eating the remains for lunch today (just me, I won't experiment on the 14 month old!)

The uncooked use-by date on the chicken was Tuesday.

Also - avocado dip. Does that count as a veg? (she says, hopefully).

From someone who normally wouldn't think twice about this and wolf it down, I had chicken salad yesterday - left over roasted chicken from sainsburys on Sunday. I threw up at 3.30am this morning Hmm Grim, not sure if it is that or a bug (dodgy tummy too)

I wouldn't risk it.

Cheese on toast instead? Grin

umm, I'm really not fussed about dates, leave things out of fridge etc but think you are pushing it to use on a Thursday with chicken cooked on a Saturday..

Frontdoorstep · 13/06/2013 11:16

Personally I would have binned it a few days ago, but I am particular about that kind of thing.

Having said that, if it's just you eating it and it smells ok, and it has been in the fridge you could just take a chance with it.

Isn't an advocate a fruit?

WhatHo · 13/06/2013 11:59

Smells ok and I am pretty tough but... Thanks everyone you have given me permission to chuck it Grin I hate wasting food but I hate being ill even more!

Isn't an advocate a fruit? there's a joke in there but I just can't think of it right now! I genuinely don't know what avocado is.

I hate wasting food too!

Sometimes yes though one has to think realistically sickness is worse. I moaned to a colleague the other day about the fact I was undecided about throwing some mince away that I'd de-frosted and not cooked as we'd gone out. Luckily DH had binned it due to the smell and my guilt was relinquished!

I'd probably have risked the avocado dip though..

DowntonTrout · 13/06/2013 12:39

Not necessarily the chicken that would worry me- it's the rice. I wouldn't reheat 5 day old rice.

MaryPoppinsBag · 13/06/2013 12:41

Yes I agree rice is terrible for food poisoning. Bin it!

WhatHo · 13/06/2013 12:42

Happy dip was only 2 days over, smelled delish and DD and I tucked in happily. Grin

Downton oh yes good point. In sushi it's the rice that gives it such a sort shelf life, not the fish.

Leftover rice has a far greater risk of salmonella poisoning that chicken. Don't do it!

HappyJoyful · 13/06/2013 12:46

Totally agree, one thing I wont risk or eat is even day old rice..

Glad you enjoyed the dip though, love the stuff and made me think something I need to get my dd into

WhatHo · 13/06/2013 12:49

You will all be glad to hear risotto is currently in bin with a terrifyingly liquid cucumber and a worryingly old lump of cabbage (use by date 1 May). Grin
