Limoncello.....who, what, why??

Just spied a bottle of this whilst queuing at Aldi.

It looks gorgeous. On the bottle it suggested pouring it over ice cream but I don't really fancy that.

Anyone know of any limoncello cocktails?

Limoncello and prosecco! Chin-chin!!

GrumpyKat · 10/06/2013 14:27

Limoncello. Cold from the freezer, needs nothing else. It's lush and tastes of sunshine.

Moominsarehippos · 10/06/2013 14:31

Nooooo. I is the stuff of the devil. Ie you drink the lot and wish you were dead.

Approach with caution (although very nice chilled and sipped in moderation, not the whole bottle oh no not at all).

BaconAndAvocado · 10/06/2013 16:46

Grin moomin I'm such a cheap date that if I drank 2 glasses I would probably wish I was dead!

So not sure I could drink it neat!

It's lovely very cold with lemonade. Delicious in fact!

holmessweetholmes · 10/06/2013 17:43

It is vile, sickly stuff imo. Quite revolting.

dottygamekeeper · 10/06/2013 17:44

very yummy in the Nigella recipe with white chocolate, frozen summer fruits and cream (from the Nigellissima book, sorry don't know how to do a link). A very easy way to do a quick and delicious special occasion pud, in fact we are having it tonight for our wedding anniversary!

JamNan · 10/06/2013 18:16

Hangover in a bottle. Avoid.

lightrain · 10/06/2013 18:19

You can make it yourself really easily and it seems less hangover inducing that way! It's delicious. Then have it with biscotti James Martin recipe

nextphase · 10/06/2013 18:23

anything here?

Agree with store it in the freezer, and drink a tiny shot. We got some Clementine "limincello" after a meal in Italy once. made my eyes water, but was lovely!

MirandaWest · 10/06/2013 18:25

I love limoncello :) straight from the freezer on its own.

BaconAndAvocado · 10/06/2013 18:30

Being thick here but how long would you leave the bottle in the freezer?

Does it not freeze solid?

OP posts:
nextphase · 10/06/2013 18:33

Nope, just let the bottle live in the freezer. There is too much alcohol in it to let it freeze solid (tho it does get a bit thicker)

My vodka lives in the freezer - no messing about with icecubes!

BaconAndAvocado · 10/06/2013 18:36

I seeee.....

Just found the Nigella recipe with berries and white chocolate, it looks verily scrumptious, will definitely give that a try!

Thanks all, I'm off back to Aldi tomorrow! Smile

It is lovely and quite more-ish. I do not recommend that you do shots of it after red wine though. I haven't touched it since that night last summer!!

snoworneahva · 10/06/2013 19:12

It's quite horrible - was glad we only bought a very small bottle in Italy.

I'm liking the sound of this limoncello stuff.

Off to hunt out Nigella's recipe too!

eastfield10 · 11/06/2013 11:26

I've used it to make limoncello granita in the past. Very nice especially after a spicy meal.

BaconAndAvocado · 11/06/2013 11:50

That sounds interesting east is it a sorbet type thing? Tell me more....

OP posts:
eastfield10 · 11/06/2013 12:52

I think I used this recipe, it's dead easy. A bit like sorbet but a different texture, not as smooth.

A word of warning - it looks a very odd colour to begin with -don't panic! Once frozen and and the ice crystals broken up it looks much better!

BaconAndAvocado · 11/06/2013 14:15

Could you post that link again please eastfield

Lavenderhoney · 11/06/2013 16:42

Its lethal:) but I am delighted I clicked on this thread as I had no idea I could make it! And I have lots of lemons to use up.

I like it neat with ice, but I'm can't really remember. Its all a blur:)
