Vegetable Box Schemes - any good?

wondering about trying one anyone got recomendations about the company and are they good , i need to know the good and the bad, thanks

they tend to be fairly local, so it rather depends where you are...

But my most recommended are Riverford (and sister co River Nene organics in the E Midlands). Brilliant fresh stuff.

On the other hand, Farmaround (london/yorks) were a bit duff - things went mouldy at the end of the week.

We're in London and have used Abel and Cole for the last few years. They are great, I think, and v helpful, esp if you need to cancel for a week or have certain veg you don't like.

i love the fact that it's local produce. also makes me cook things that i've never even heard of. handy recipes supplied each week in the box. and they publish the contents of the next week's boxes on a friday lunchtime, so you can vary your order if you want to.
on the down side, you can't specify things you don't want. and sometimes they change the contents of the boxes from the predictions. so you pick a box to avoid cucumber and then get it anyway...

thanks had a look at riverford - looks good but dont delieve in my area, able and cole do so might try them unless anyone can suggest anyone else in east london?

am sort of thinking about this but can you specify things you want? Unlike cornflakegirl, we eat a lot of cucumber in this house (only green thing DS1 will eat....).
Was talking to someone the other day about them and she said that it makes it easier to think of thing to cook as you have to cook with what you have (IYSWIM!)

it does make it easier sometimes - restricted choice and all that. although we sometimes find it makes us lazy - whenever we get cauliflower or broccoli, we always stick it in a cheese sauce...

and then there's our current scenario - we've had a swede sitting around for two weeks because the only thing i can think to do with it is roast it and we haven't got enough roasting-type veg! :)

we are n1 islington. we have weekly box from just organic. fantastic and good value. they prob have website...

I have just started using Farmaround, in Yorkshire, and have been very impressed. The fruit ad veg have been excellent quality and have lasted all week at least. Seem to get a good variety and sufficient in each pack, and not too expensive either. Really helpful if you need to talk to them by phone too.

Not a curly Kale in sight yet :)

hulababy - what are the qtys like i have looked on the site and think a standard veg box and mini fruit bag would do us but i have no guide for quantasties - how many of each do you get approx?, thanks
