I normally do a vic sponge cake, but thought a madeira might be better - plan to make it Thursday for decorating friday and eating on Saturday - what recipe would the decorating gurus recommend?

I am not a decorating guru, but Madeira does keep (for a couple of weeks if need be), and is usually better the day after baking anyway. It will also hold its shape better.

A bit late- sorry! But I use a pound cake mix for pretty much anything! Equal quantities of butter/marg and sugar (8oz for example), half in number of eggs (that would be 4) then same of s r flour (so 8) add any flavouring before folding in the flour.
