Can I just throw it all in uncooked?

No I wouldn't. I would prepare it on hob in normal way they transfer to slow cooker. You need to brown off meat etc for flavour.

Others may disagree!

I have done it without browning, it was ok but better with. Add less liquid than normal though or its too wet.
