freezing/defrosting sponge

hi I've got a trial cake in the oven for DDs birthday on Saturday i was planning on just eating it but its looking pretty good (hardly baked much before).

could i freeze it tomorrow & defrost for icing on Friday?

if so when/how should i Defrost & what should i do with iy tonight?

you can wrap it as little as 30 minutes out of oven, in a few layers of cling film and freeze it. then defrost it unrapped on friday for icing.

thanks. i covered it with a clean towel last night gave wrapped it layers of cling film put it in a polythene bag & put it in the freezer.

when defrosting do i unwrap it first? i get conflicting into from Google...
