Slow cooked chicken - high or low?

DP has just brought me a reduced whole chicken, and seeing as I've never cooked a whole chicken before, if i'm going to slow cook it, does it need to be on high or low? I was looking at recipes and most say it is fine on low, but someone commented that chicken is recommended to be cooked on high?

Also how long, either on low or high, or whichever is best?!

Start on gas mark 6 or 7 and turn down to 4 after 20 mins. No idea what that is in electric terms sorry.

Yes it can - I bung one in before work on low and we have it for tea. Literally falls off the bone - we get more meat off a slow cooked chicken than an oven cooked one. I saw a recommendation once to sit it on balls of scrunched up foil but I usually sit it straight on the bottom and it's fine.

bung it in the slow cooker on high.
