Hi,

My little girl is turning one next week and I'm having a picnic to celebrate. Everyone is bringing their own food, but I'd like to provide a few bits and bobs and some sort of cake. Any ideas?

How about pretty cupcakes for everyone. That way you don't have to worry about having to cut it up to serve and clean up is easy.

or make a traybake . You can ice it very simply then return it to the baking tray for ease of transport, cut in situ.
I'm not great on picnics (mine consist of packets of crisps and sandwiches and fruit), my mum used to roast a whole chicken before we left the house- getting up super early. She also made amazing potato salads- the mayo type and the vinaigrette, onion and tuna style. Something quite different would be a savoury cake (french style picnic food)
