Greek feast

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/05/2013 20:47

If you wanted to make a Greek feast (entirely or pretty much veggie) what would you do?

So far am thinking:
Gigantes beans
Greek salad
Tsatziki, hoummus and pitta
Olives
Spinach and feta pie

Making myself hungry already! :)

What about stuffed peppers, courgettes.
stuffed vine leaves.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/05/2013 21:00

Something with aubergines like babaganoush or moussaka or grilled Aubergine, feta and mint salad

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/05/2013 19:06

Love baba ganoush but hate aubergines in any other form. :)

Egg and lemon soup
Cheese pastries served with honey
Halved strawberries drizzled with ouzo

jojane · 28/05/2013 19:24

Stuffed vine leaves, roasted mediterranean veggies, Chees and spinach in puff pastry, etc

jojane · 28/05/2013 19:24

Pudding Greek yoghurt with walnuts and honey

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/05/2013 19:24

Strawberries in Ouzo sounds worth a go, though I detest the stuff!
Off to google cheesy honey things.

Greek yog, walnuts, honey = brilliant. Figs would be good too.

Sounds fabulous. What's the occasion?

Pantah630 · 29/05/2013 10:59

All of the above :). Will have a trawl through my books when I get home sure there is a lot more. A vegi version of pastichio would be good, there must be one somewhere or substitute the mince with quorn mince.

Pantah630 · 29/05/2013 11:03

I always do a huge tray trays of roasted new potatoes with lots of Greek oregano, rosemary and olive oil for our annual family BBQ (majority Cypriot) and they've all gone before I get round to putting a plate up :(

Alternatively lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, oregano marinaded potato wedges roasted are equally delicious.

Pantah630 · 29/05/2013 11:06

Marrow/courgettes steamed then fried with lots of lemon and pepper is another family favourite.

BlingLoving · 29/05/2013 11:09

pastichio realgreekrecipes.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/normal-0-false-false-false.html. This blog is good although so many ads it takes a little while to load.

I remembered courgette fritters while trawling through. One of my favourites. Will have to try them for DS this week I think. He likes corn fritters so I'm sure he'll like these.

BlingLoving · 29/05/2013 11:09

That's supposed to to say Veggie pastichio.

Pantah630 · 29/05/2013 11:09

pastichio without obo looks good.

Pantah630 · 29/05/2013 11:12

bling the broccoli fritters on the smitten kitten blog are fab here

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 29/05/2013 11:18

Lamb kebabs with pepper and onions, stuffed into pitta bread with yoghurt and mint sauce.
Sliced beef tomatoes with Feta.
Couscous with olives and halloumi.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 29/05/2013 11:19

Sorry, just saw the veggie bit.
Could you replace the lamb with aubergine/courgette/mushroom?

BlueChampagne · 29/05/2013 12:50

Skordalia

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/05/2013 16:59

No occasion but greed. And I want to go to Greece this year but dp doesn't, so I plan to console myself with food instead.

Pantha - your potato ideas are brilliant.

Courgette fritters - ooh yes.

Skordalia - is that the garlic potato thing? Must admit it's never appealed for some reason. Should it?

Could do kebabs with haloumi instead of lamb.

Home made pitta bread. Delis has a recipe which is lovely and really easy. So much nicer than any shop bought
