Waffle makers....any recommendations?

My DDs love pancakes and I thought I'd branch out and get a waffle maker for a bit of variety. I looked at the cuisinart one on Lakelands website but elsewhere it gets mixed reviews. Does anyone have one that you would recommend?

Got one years ago from Lidl and there was probably my mistake, it was only about a tenner and yes it does work OK but horrible to clean and now resides at the back of the cupboard! We do love pancakes as they're easy to make and easier to clean up. Could be that we didn't use a correct recipe too!

I have a cuisinart one but it is twice the size of the one Lakeland currently seems to sell - it makes four waffles at a time, rather than two - which means it is a bit big and bulky, but I've had it a couple of years and it does work very well. Certainly seems well-made.

Hmmm, the one I looked at had removable dishwasher-able non stick plates...what could possibly go wrong?? I just don't want to spend £60 and be in the position that multitask is in.....I wondered if its a case of you get what you pay for?

I bought a basic on-the-hob one and it's brilliant, takes up very little space and is dead easy to clean.

The hob one cooks perfectly on our gas hob, it's no harder than making pancakes. You can open it to take a peek to make sure the waffle is browned to your liking. Having used it I would never bother with an electric one myself.

sarahandduck - did you buy one? I am not sure which to go for. Hob one or electric posner one for £27 on amazon....

I've got a Breville sandwich toaster with removable plates and its utterly useless. I don't think the plates get hot enough.

I have a cheapie from Aldi and love it - no trouble cleaning - non removable plates - and was only about 10Eur.

Have to say we're in a scotch pancake run at the mo as that is quicker and easier to do - the waffle batter takes a bit longer to make as it has butter in too so I need to get the electric mixer out as well

No I still haven't bought one :) I will do though...thinking I will probably go for the hob one.

I read somewhere that waffle maker needs to be 1000W, apparently no point buying those which are 700W

I bought the posner one for £27 from amazon. It is great. Mad gluten free waffles for ds2 on Saturday for his birthday. It was quick, easy and they tasted yum. It makes 4 waffles at a time - perfect when you have 4 dc.
