Can fresh asparagus be frozen?

I'm planning on going to a PYO asparagus farm this weekend and to avoid asparagus risotto week, I was wondering if some of it could be frozen?

Yes, you need to blanch it first though.

Yes though when it defrosts it will be fine for cooking with, but a bit too soggy to eat on its own.
Blanch, as ChilliJo says.

The plan is to freeze some for risottos later in the year so that will work well.
