How far in advance can you make fondant animals?

I'm decorating a birthday cake with fondant animals (first time I have done it), and I don't know how far in advance I can make them? I go on holiday for two weeks and get back the day before the cake is needed so i would prefer to do them before I go. Will they keep? Do I need to add anything to the fondant?

Somewhere cool and dry, yes they'll keep. Ordinary shop bought fondant is fine.

If you paint or food colouring pen on eyes and mouths leave that until you get back it tends to bleed slightly and works better in dry icing anyway.
