I have a 10 month old baby girl who loves her food, She eats baby fruity porridge However she goes through it at a fast rate as its only a small packet and quite expensive. Can anybody suggest an oat based cheaper alternative?

Ordinary porridge (eg Jordan's porridge oats) made with whole milk. Then add some fruit such as mashed banana, grated apple or chopped strawberries.

Is it the cow & gate one suitable from 4 months? If so it seems to be approximately fruit puree + baby rice made up with milk. The ingredients are: Baby-Grade Fruit (Apple, Banana, Orange),Milled Cereals (Corn, Rice) ,Demineralised Whey Powder¹ ,Skimmed Milk Powder¹ ,Vegetable Fat (contains Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin) ,Calcium ,Vitamins¹ ,Iron ,Zinc ,?Vitamins: Vitamin C, Niacin, Vitamin E, Pantothenic Acid, Thiamin (B1), Vitamin B6, Vitamin A, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin D 3 ,Prepared with 82g Fruit, 45g Fortified Milk and 28g Cereal per 100g dry product ,Contains: ¹Milk.

To make something similar you could use a recipe like this one or just cook some apple and puree with a bit of banana and orange juice and stir in some baby rice and milk. I would try to use fairly sweet apples as cooking apples can be a bit sour and you can definitely cook dessert apples.

At 10 mo she should be able to eat more stuff for breakfast. What about semolina, omelette, pancakes or toast with some spread?

Can ready brek or jordan's porridge be given cold like fruity porridge, and you just add water, or do you need to heat them?
