Just bought a fryer- What shall I fry?

Realised we don't eat very much fried food in our household. Bought it because I want to try making tempura and to fry my own fish and chips when we have them but what else is really delicious fried?

Meat, cheese, sweet treats? Open to any ideas/recipes.

TIA

Camembert with cranberry sauce.

Mozzarella sticks

Chicken in southern style coating

Fish goujons in beer batter

Fish cakes or rissoles.

I only really deep fry Tempura as you've mentioned actually. It's a huge favourite here. I use sparkling icy water and dip the veg in it over ice - the batter is immensely bubbly.

Sounds lovely Wally, will try that Smile

WallyBantersYoniBox · 13/04/2013 19:56

hedge I always imagine that a deep fried mars bar would be secretly delicious, but sounds so wrong.

Deep fried banana is sooo nice. And I cant stand bananas normally.

AnimatedDad · 13/04/2013 20:41

Doughnuts?

howcomes · 13/04/2013 20:42

Sweet potato cut into chips aka yam frites, they are delish!

multitask · 13/04/2013 20:43

Falafels much nicer deep fried :)

wannabedomesticgoddess · 13/04/2013 21:02

Are sweet potatoes yams? Shock

HazeltheMcWitch · 13/04/2013 21:04

Churros.

You should probably do an investigation into which chocolate bar deep fries best. I vote Bounty. Mars is nice too. I'd like to try a Creme egg. I suspect Milky Way would be a waste of time.

AngryFeet · 13/04/2013 22:15

My mum used to do thin slices of courgette dipped in.batter and fried. I didnt realise at the time it was tempura. She used to serve it with our roast dinner Confused

Fishandjam · 13/04/2013 22:27

Homemade onion bhajis. Dead easy especially if you have a food processor to slice/chop the onions. Most supermarkets sell gram flour now. (Excuse me, I appear to be drooling.)

wannabedomesticgoddess · 13/04/2013 22:40

This thread has made me want a fryer.

NettoSuperstar · 14/04/2013 08:50

Fried chicken, I've done loads of recipes for it, all lush.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 14/04/2013 08:52

pakora
southern fried chicken

i just borrowed the takeaway secret from the library and now I want a fryer too.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/04/2013 09:58

Years ago my dad saw a recipe for leek fritters, very nice. Then he got a bit of a fritter obsession. Just one word of warning pickled onion fritters on your Sunday dinner aren't good, especially if you were expecting leek Smile

babySophieRose · 14/04/2013 10:51

little cubes of mozzarella, feta cheese covered in batter to eat with salad or for a snak.

MsUumellmahaye · 14/04/2013 10:56

home made onion rings mmmmmm, i miss my fryer.

dashoflime · 14/04/2013 11:00

Parsnip chips are good.

Also: deep frying is the only way to do tofu. Deep fry little cubes and then stick them in stir frys and soups.

NettoSuperstar · 14/04/2013 12:18

I made agedashi tofu with deep fried tofu, delicious.
Arancini are good too.
Actually, you can't really go wrong with anything, all deep fried food is good.

joymaker · 13/05/2013 22:13

mmm...thank you everyone Smile

This thread is making me drool too. Any recommendations for a deep fat fryer?

InsanelyBrainDeprived · 14/05/2013 21:00

Plain old potato chips. Nothing better especially with sea salt sprinkled on

Ihaveavoo · 14/05/2013 21:07

Deep fried ice-cream!
You will never ever regret that.
