I've been baking more recently and my hand mixer is not very good so what about a Magimix so I can use it to chop as well, is it good for cakes ?

I wouldn't use mine for cakes - I like the old-fashioned creaming method, where you beat air into butter/sugar to get lightness in the sponge, with a Kitchenaid or Kenwood. But Nigella seems to make a lot of her cakes in one, by adding more baking powder to get the lifting effect.

Magis are great for pastry, crumble topping, blitzing fillings, etc, but if you're making cakes by the traditional 'cream butter/sugar, beat in eggs/fold in flour' method, you're better off with a hand mixer and a big bowl.

Thanks perhaps I just need new hand mixer then. I can't justify the cost of kenwood mixers.
