... do you put the ham into the boiling liquid or cold and then let it reach boiling temperature before you simmer it? i don't want to over- or under-cook it. Confused

Put it in cold

it's a long cooking time, so I really don't reckon the 10 minutes either way will ruin it.
FWIW, i put the ham in cold coke, mainly because a big joint always makes the liquid rise up more than i expect.

Thanks! But when do I start counting the cooking time from? I'm asking because I've done it a couple of times before and once I over-cooked it and once it was undercooked and I had to leave it for longer. Which then made it overcookedHmm.

It's only a small piece, just under 1kg.

I would time it once you bring it to a simmer.

Are you doing it on gas or slow cooker. 10 hrs sounds like SC!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 31/03/2013 09:05

On electric cooker.
