supposed to be white, but is often debated.

White

calsworld · 10/05/2006 09:03

I think white too - that's why its always served cooked through, unlike lamb or beef

shellybelly · 10/05/2006 09:06

i started worrying that i was giving dd too much red meat so good to know that pork is white meat

I always assumed it was white but something I read (can't remember what) led me to think it might be red though it wasn't clear.
In other words I don't know.
Sorry.
I have been idly wondering about this for a while but didn't have the initiative to find out!

isn't pork just as high in cholesterol and saturated fat as beef etc? I can't see why it wouldn't be in the same category from that pov.

just did a search and it look conflicting but not going to worry too much as she doesn't eat a hell of a lot of meat, likes her veg more

Found this from www.cebudoctorsuniversity.edu/hospital/cardio/chua198.html but had to click on cached.

"Is pork white meat?

Most definitely, no. Marketing claims that pork is white meat is false and a scam to deceive the unsuspecting public by the pork industry, even in the United States. Pork is red meat, as red as beef, etc. Red meat has a lot higher fat/cholesterol contents in them compared to white meat. This is the main reason for this deceptive commercials about pork. Chicken and turkey are white meat, with lower fat contents, but the dark meat portion (wings, thigh, etc) in them are higher in cholesterol than the lighter parts (breasts). "

Having posted already saying that I thought it was white...have vague recollection that when I was 11, I was put on a special diet to try to help eczema and was told to cut out red meats, and treat pork as a red meat....hmmmm memory not what it was clearly!

well i cooked pork in a marinade with peppers and it was yummy yummy yummy Grin dd didn't eat that much of it, i'm trying to make sure she gets a balanced diet including meats/fish etc and plenty of veg fruit, so i will now be cooking fish twice a week!
