My dh has a friend who has alarge supermarket. He went to visit him today and came back with a car loaded with stuff - just at date limit or unwanted.

Amongst other things there was a large, stand alone swimming pool (which we have given away) and about 30 lbs of bananas (varying ripeness), ditto vine tomatoes, about three pounds of mushrooms, ditto pleurottes, about 10 lbs of turnips, ditto pears....

The other stuff, like the chocolate muffins (48) was easy to deal with, as were the brioche and the house plants, the 40 litres of mineral water, the crisps, the mangos and the pineapple.

So, help please, it is going to be very hot here this week and everything is going to go off fast. The fridge is heaving. What can I cook with the bananas (bread, icecream?), tomatoes, pears, mushrooms, turnips ? Help.

I have already given loads away. This is the stuff we were left with.Shock

Banana bread (ie cake) - can be frozen. Make loads of tomato sauce and add the mushrooms - can be used for pasta, casserole bases etc. Stew the pears and make crumble :)

What is a pleurotte?!
