what is your dd into?

Nbg · 08/05/2006 14:37

My auntie made one for my dd's 1st birthday.

It was an oval sponge cake covered in white icing and then it had another sponge in the shape of a 1 that went on top of the main cake and was covered in pink icing.

I think she wrote her name on it too in a fancy way.

I thought it looked lovely and tbh she was too young to understand it anyway.

For her 2nd birthday though we had a Toy Story cake made as she likes it so much.

i made ds a big number one!

For my dd1's 1st birthday i bought her a large Hello Kitty cake.
Hello Kitty is so simple to draw yourself .. buy those coloured icing .. or as you like .. draw with chocolate!
Last year it was her 6th birthday and i bought a plain cake and decorated ballerina things on it with ballet pump candles.
Other birthdays and dd2's i have bought Valerie Patisserie cakes .. yummm

Oh, in Sainbury's you can take in a photo of your dd and they will make an icing pic to put on their cake .. takes 15 mins and ask in-store for details ..

just make a chocolate cake and stick a candle in it

1 is too young to notice much effort beyond this, so save your energy for when she's 9 and demanding a ballet-dancing pony fairy castle cake.

I made lots of mini muffins for mine's 1st birthday, v easy, just piled them into a pyramid and put a candel on top, much easier then a big cakea nd simpler to share out! (think I did banana, but could do choc)

Could make a choc cake in shape of number 1 - not too much effort, but a bit personal too. Plenty of choc buttons or similar round the edge and your dd will be happy!

I hired a tin in the shape of a teddy from a local cake shop (50p a day hire), made a choc cake and decorated it with choc buttercream, buttons, and some crumbled up flake for hairy ears.

thanks for the ideas..will look at doing a cake like "1"...good idea to surround it with buttons etc..alos like the muffin cake idea...mmmm it's making me hungry now..!!!

For both my kids first birthdays I made chocolate hedgehogs. Round choc cake covered in choc butter icing and then loads of broken up flake stuck in and buttons for eyes. Very easy, effective and delicious.

ds was into the fimbles at his first birthday. well as into anything as they can be at 1!! I wasn't massively into him eating lots of cake at that stage and all the wee ones at his "party" were going to be younger than him with parents who felt the smae (can I just say that they all polish off their fair of cake 2 years on! wonder if we'll all be so bothered next time round...)

Anyway, I made a gorgeous rish pretty adult chocolate cake and put a wee toy fimble on the top. Fimble is still played with in the bath and ds loves to be told about his 1st b'day party.

Have fun whatever you decide!

If having a party make a load of fairy cakes and pile them up - candle on the top...kids love picking their 'own' cake...

hana · 09/05/2006 14:12

the cupcakes cake is a great idea - did that for dd's 3rd birthday
for her first, I did a standard cake and decorated it with pink red purple smarties in the shape of a 1 ( and I got to eat the the other colours!!)
mmmmm
