Is marmite okay to give to my ten month old baby. I have seen recipies for marmite sticks or is it too high in salt? I have given her a little and she loves it.

I don't give it to ds on the basis that it is pretty salty. Houmous is a good option if you are looking for something to put on toast.

MY DD's nursery give them marmite sandwiches at that age and I was wondering the same thing. Cream cheese is nice on toast

if i give ds (22.5 months) marmite on toast, i dilute it in water first...

if you put a tiny bit on it probably won't make much difference. Given that the bread probably has more salt in it than the tiny bit of marmite spread on top, and margarine and butter usually have salt added too.

i've wondered about this with my ds. Asked Hv and she said one portion a day was fine as long as your not giving them lots of other salty foods. My ds now has marmite on toast for breakfast.

It's high in Vit B and is great in moderation.

I think - 'sparingly' is the answer

my ds (3) had a minor operation at outpatients recently - he was given marmite on toast afterwards - and it was smothered in it - spread like butter - and I found it impossible to eat. Shock

DS on the otherhand was so ravenous after being starved all day he wolfed it down - until I managed to persuade them to give us some plain buttered toast and threw the other stuff away.

I'm a big fan of marmite - but even I wouldn't found it appetizing if spread liberally over toast!
