Chelsea Buns- did I overprove?

Made chelsea buns recently, and due to the time I had available I made the dough, proved, made the buns, and then left them to prove overnight. They came out fine, but not really as soft as the first time I made them. Is it possible to overprove them? (Definitely wasn't too long in the oven, have done that before so kept a very very close watch).
