Hello, Looking to purchase a slow cooker, we are 2 adults 2 dc age 6 and 4, saw a breville one on sale at Sainsbury's 6.5L half price at £24.99 but bit nervous as might be too big? also when they have auto setting does that mean it stops cooking on its own? any recommendations and/or suggestions much appreciated. Thanks..

I recently bought a new one as my old one cracked and there is no way I could live without one! I did loads of research into the different ones available and am v pleased with what I chose in the end.

I went for the Argos cook works 6.5 ltr for 19.95. I was about to buy a much more expensive one with a timer and read the Which report where it didn't score very highly at all. This Argos one came out much better and less than half the price. The reviews on Argos were also excellent. It has a high, low and keep warm function which is perfect and I actually like it more than my old one which was about £60.

In terms of the Breville one, I don't know what auto actually does, sorry. Size wise 6.5ltr is just right for our family of 5 (3 x 4yr ols and DH) and it means you can batch cook for the freezer too. It is also big enough to fit large joints in. I do actually have a smaller 3.5 ltr one too if I want to do a small meal for me and DH but the other one gets much more use.

Hope that's helped

On my slow cooker (Morphy Richards) the auto function means it will keep the food warm but is not a high enough temperature to cook it. So if you come home and the food is cooked, but you don't want to eat it for a couple of hours you put it on auto.
