Yoghurt makers please share your best recipes

Just ordered a yoghurt maker and would love some good recipe ideas.

Is there a best milk to use? Or best starter culture or live yoghurt?
Can you just buy any live yoghurt from the supermarket and use that to start your yoghurt off?
If you are going to use it for desserts, can you use a sweet or flavoured yoghurt as the starter? (memories of my mum making it with vanilla yoghurt as the base, which was much nicer and less acidic than the proper cultures sold for the purpose.)

I've just got the Lakeland one and made a couple of batches using the recipe that comes with the instructions, UHT milk, skimmed milk powder and a couple of teaspoons of bought natural yogurt. And been quite happy with the results, especially as 1ltr costs 60p to make rather than £3 to buy.

Your starter has to be a live yogurt and I think most of the flavoured ones are not, but I could be wrong. I think that you are best off making it plain and then adding what you want afterwards.

Thanks, Mothership. I'd heard about using UHT milk before but didn't know if it was preferable. Will give it a go.
