Is it wrong to have beef stew....

With pasta?

I cooked a stew in the slow cooker yesterday and we ate it with mash and veg. I have just enough left for another family meal. I don't really want mash again.

So, is it? Grin

Make dumplings.

noisytoys · 23/02/2013 15:42

We have slow cooked stew on top of spaghetti all the time because DC's don't like mince. It's great

BanjoPlayingTiger · 23/02/2013 15:42

Nope. It's not traditional I will give you that, but there is nothing wrong with it.

fluffacloud · 23/02/2013 15:49

Thank you!

DP, who isn't even at home for dinner, made gagging noises when I suggested it, the swine.

no, not pasta imo Grin perhaps rice?

TotemPole · 23/02/2013 16:03

I wouldn't like that.

I agree, rice would be better.

NorthernLurker · 23/02/2013 16:06

I would do rice rather than pasta tbh.

NorthernLurker · 23/02/2013 16:06

Or very chunky chips.......

Chubfuddler · 23/02/2013 16:20

Rice or potato wedges.

5madthings · 23/02/2013 16:23

Rice, wedges or dumplings would be better. We had beef stew with dumplings last night. No leftovers here tho with the 5madthings!

deemented · 23/02/2013 16:26

Make giant yorkshire puds and have it in them!

tak1ngchances · 23/02/2013 16:28

In Italy they eat beef stew with pasta all the time...just tell your family it's an Italian stew

wannabedomesticgoddess · 23/02/2013 16:29

Roast potatoes or rice would be my choice!

InNeedOfBrandy · 23/02/2013 16:31

I would do dumplins or rice and crusty bread.

BertieBotts · 23/02/2013 16:32

I had some with rice the other day and it was weird. Yorkshire puddings or dumplings would be nice. Or jacket potatoes, but that's similar to mash really.

Can you stick it in a dish with a ready made pastry lid and call it a pie?

Allalonenow · 23/02/2013 16:35

Beef stew and pasta is a great family meal, also beef stew with polenta is very tasty.

bonzo77 · 23/02/2013 16:36

We have goulash with tagliatelle regularly.

piprabbit · 23/02/2013 16:39

We have pork stew with tagliatelle - it is yummy.
I'd definitely try a beef stew too - especially if it was a wine rather than beer based one.

AltogetherAndrews · 23/02/2013 17:20

My DM makes this all the time. Beef stew with pasta bows mixed in. It's lovely.

coffeeinbed · 23/02/2013 17:22

It's perfectly right.
Beef Stroganoff is traditionally served with noodles.

fluffacloud · 23/02/2013 17:23

So the verdict...

We had it anyway! The DC's really enjoyed it and so did I.

Until I thought, hmm, what does this remind me of? It reminded me of the days when my DM used to serve up tinned meatballs in gravy with pasta - boak!

I would have it again, but as another poster suggested, maybe with a wine based stew.

I really should have learned to listen to the wisdom of mn by now Blush
