Which sides do I put together ie the insides of the sandwich? And is it ok to use butter icing? Smile

If you've cut a cake across, the cut sides.
If you've made 2 cakes, slice the bulge off one and sandwich the cut side with the bottom of the other.
Butter icing fine. Extra nice with jam.

You've probably already made & eaten it by now :)

No I was waiting for the experts to advise Grin

Oh dear, I'm going to disagree with garlic!

If you've made it in two tins you put the two bottoms together.

And yes butter icing best imo (even better with jam too!)

Heh, Hoaz, I worried slightly that my advice was going to be downmarket or something Wink

Got to say it's easier to butter the bottom of a cake than a cut side! Go with that, Chippy :)

Glad we all agree on the filling!

Moominsarehippos · 15/02/2013 18:17

Oo you know what's a really nice filling? Thin layer of homemade jam, then a layer of sliced strawberries and whipped cream. I need to go and make cake now.

On did bottoms together- ..... Strawberry jam and butter icing , looks ok Grin

I always do mine with jam and butter icing. Raspberry jam :)

Hope you enjoyed it, Chippy!
