Does anyone here never buy bread/cakes/biscuits and just make them yourself?

What do you bake?
How often do you bake?

how large a batch do you bake?
How long does it last and can you freeze it?

I want to do this seriously now as I get a bit angry about the amount of crap in our food.
I'm especially thinking of packed lunches and snacks for the kids.
We currently bake our own bread in the machine but on the odd occasion here and there we will buy bread. Same with biscuits. We never buy cake.

I bake all of our bread products. I make bread as and when we need it, got some proving on the side now actually. Every 2 weeks I'll make a batch of bagels/rolls/small baguettes/flour tortillas and freeze them.

We rarely eat cakes/biscuits, dd and dh dont have much of a sweet tooth so I don't bother buying those either otherwise I'd eat them all myself, just make them myself whenever we do fancy them.

I never buy bread or cakes. I do bake about every two days for the whole family including real bread. I freeze a lot so I can always have something to take out and it allows me to make bigger batches.

DW likes pastries for breakfast so she buys some for herself from M&S as I just can't be bothered making fresh croissants at 4.00 a.m.

We bought a bread machine when the kids were very young and I realised how much salt there is in commercial bread. During the packed lunch days my husband baked a bread every night during term time with which to make their sandwiches. That is a whole lot of salt saved from their systems. Now they are in senior school and having school dinners, I shudder to think what they are taking in, but we are still eating home made bread at home.

Me:)

I bake bread once a week and freeze but I like the smell so often make it daily as I go along ( sahm)
Biscuits and bars - make once a week, dc help and choose recipes
Cakes- I make a chocolate brownie cake every 3 days and it's gone so fast! Dc can make it with me too. It works for puddings with ice cream or custard too.

Make little fondants in choc too, really easy and just freeze then a minute in the microwave.

Suggest you make your own ice cream too, much nicer!

I started baking bread about 2 years ago when I realised how expensive it was. Usually make 1 small loaf to last DH and I about 3-4 days. Just need to convince the DH a bread machine will be a worthwhile investment now!

As for cookies, I make a batch of 12-14 every couple of days usually for friends and family as a thank you. I'm always asking for small favours and offer to pay in cookies. I've even got a couple of friends who buy them regularly from me now Grin

Cakes, flapjack and cereal bars when we fancy it really but there is usually something sweet in the cupboards somewhere.
