Meals for someone recovering from bowel surgery

I'm a very average cook. Think pasta, curry, goulash.
A family member is coming out of hospital soon, following bowel surgery.
Does anyone have any experience in cooking meals that would be suitable?

No, but I've experienced bowel surgery.

I found I was fine with normal food (within reason) provided it was a very small portion. A huge plateful of anything is off-putting.

If weight loss is an issue avoid soup as it fills you up too quickly.
