Beef stew in slow cooker

I usually do the Jamie ministry of food beef stew in the oven or on the hob but as I'm working late I want to do it in the slow cooker
Do I need to reduce the amount of liquid? And would you brown the onions first?
I'm using a v old slow cooker (on/off switch, no temp control) and you can brown on the hob before you put it on the heat plate

No need to brown the onions, you can if you want.

Rule of thumb for adapting recipes for sc is reduce liquid by 1/3.
