Ok I have Squash, carrots, potatoes diced beef and a 3.5l slow cooker.

Right now where do I start for a really yummy beef stew in the slow cooker. Need it to feed four and I particularly need help with quantities of liquid donuts not too runny and watery.

I'd just use enough to almost cover the meat and veg, and I like to use beer. You can also put in a few tablespoons of cranberry / red currant jelly which adds a nice sweetness.

Do I flour and brown the meat first as IfI was making it on the hob?

I would do, in butter, gives it a nice texture. And make your stock up with a bit of watered cornflour to get a nice thick stock. Fry the beef with some onions too. I always chuck in leeks, swede and celery. Bit of variation!

Can do celery and onion don't have leeks or swede though. And does it have to be butter? Two dairy free children so would it work with their marg?

Thanks for the help!!! This will be only my second time using the slow cooker :)
