A bottle of full fat coke. One onion, halved not peeled, one carrot. Off you go. It's yummy.

Like to add in some spices, can add in a few of these;

Juniper berries (if you like gin type flavour)
Star Anise - a chinese type flavour - just use 1 or two
Peppercorns - bit of heat
Cinnamon stick - nice for Xmas but adds a nice warmth too
Cloves - can be stuck into the onion if you like

Or a combo of the above!!

Personally put the gammon into a big pot with cold water - bring to boil then drain and rinse - this removes much of the excess salt and 'scum' you can get. Then do the coke bit.

Above is pretty much as per Nigella does it...

will start off with a basic recipe but thanks Nigella for the tips

I always do mine in a pan where the fit is quite snug, a large bottle of coke usually fills the pan and just overs the gammon (its ham when cooked) Wink.

Have never done it in a slow pot as ours is shallower. Maybe slow cooker is OK not fully covered but have no experience.

I'd half fill the crock-pot, 4 hours on high, 8 on low, turn halfway if you can. Must be proper, not diet, coke!
