I have a teabread recipe that includes plain wholemeal flour. Can I use strong wholemeal flour? I know there is a difference between strong flour and normal flour, but I don't know much more.

TIA.

strong flour has more gluten in it, which makes it good for bread. but I don't know if it would work for short bread type bakes.

It won't rise very well, as need working to get things going (hence kneading bread).
You could give it a go - tho I'f be inclined to use SR flour if there is any other raising agent in it, and reduce the baking powder component, or slightly reduce the bicarb if thats the only raising agent.

I have baked banana bread and fruit cakes with strong flour. Less crumbly. I would give teabread a go if you haven't got plain flour.

Thanks.
Will give it a go and see.
