Can anyone recommend one that they think partic good, please?

I have a john Lewis own brand one. It is great, tho i dont see it on their website any more...... Got it last winter
I had initially bought a stock pot sauté slow cooker but it seemed to run too hot and reduce everything too much. So I returned it.

A crocpot from lakeland, but a bit pricey

Tesco cheap and cheerful is good.

Another vote for Tesco cheap 'n cheerful. Ten quid.
