I need to bake a cake for a group of 1 year olds and can't find a recipe that is suitable, they are all loaded up with tons of sugar.

Any ideas?

I made a carrot cake that had some sugar in it, but not too much (though I then topped it with a butter cream icing which was completely baby unfriendly!). I gave some of the un-iced cake to dd who loved it though....

Can you not just make a basic sponge cake and then just decorate with what you want. I personally wouldnt worry too much about butter icing etc its not going to hurt if its just a one off.

I made \link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/carrotcake_7464.shtml\this cake} for my DD's 1st birthday party - it's bloody lovely!! I gave DD a chunk without icing and she loved it. it's got sugar in it, but all cakes do don't they? I wasn't bothered as it was a one-off special occasion.
