I am tremendosly broke this week thanks to Barclays and need 5 meal ideas that are extremely cheap.

Needs to feed 1 adult and 3 kids.

Haven't got much food in to start with so anything I buy will have to be very inexspensive.

have you got a slow cook? if so, cheap cuts of meat cook very well in them, and male great dishes.

Buy one chicken and it will do a roast, a casserole/curry and then the stock can be used for a soup.

Lunches I should be ok cos we have cheese and ham and tuna and a tin of salmon i think.

Just found some mine in the freezer and a jar of pasta sauce in the cupboard.

The kids love egg and chips so can definatly do that one, and beans on toast should go down well too.

I do have a slow cooker yeah so might pop to asda and look at the cheap meat.

Big bag of tesco value potatoes - enough for all 5 meals

big bag of tesco value carrots - enough for all 5 meals(keep these in the fridge, they go off quicker than 'normal' carrots)

Bag pasta

tinned tomatoes

1 bag tesco value cooking onions

Belly pork - enough for 2 meals

Eggs - enough for 1 main meal and as many eggy lunches as you can stand

1 bag frozen chicken portions

2 portions tesco value mince/ bag frozen mince

1 bag tesco value frozen white fish fillets

Few bags of tesco value fruit - apples, pears, bananas, grapes.

SO

5 meals.

  1. Belly pork, mash, and carrots with onion gravy

  2. Chicken, roast potatoes and carrots

  3. Fish pie - cook the fish, chuck in a cheese sauce with chopped onion in, top with mash potato, serve with carrots

  4. Belly pork, fried eggs, home made chips and - yes, carrotsGrin

  5. Pasta bologneise - fry mince, add onions, tinned toms and grated carrot with garlic if you have it, serve with pasta.

very very basic meals, you may find them a bit boring, but for 1 skint week it should be ok.

Nutty, you could use a couple of tins of tuna for the fish pie ihnstead of white fich, and it also works with chicken and gravy instead of fish and cheese sauce.

Also - bonus....

Your kids will not moan for at least a month about the food you buy by the time you get to the end of this week, but you may have a problem feeding them carrots ever again!Grin

Thanks for all of those, have written them all down and am going to do a plan for the week.

Thankfully my kids aren't too fussy with their eating and generally will eat some of anything I give them.

My mums just given me a large chicken that she wasn't going to use so we are having that for tea and there will be plenty left over to make another meal too Smile

Hiya

In the dinnerlady they have a moussaka recipie that's so cheap and easy to do. I use beef mince as can't stand lamb.

About the belly pork, I forgot to say, if you haven't cooked it before...

Don't attempt to cassarole it, it's too fatty and goes rank (at least when I tried it, it did).

Put it on a baking tray with some pepper, and bake it in the oven on about gas 5 until it is really well browned and crispy.
