Have you made Nigella's Easter Egg Nest Cake?

It's in Feast.
I've just made it for the second year and am still unimpressed. Last year it was too bitter and dark for the children so this year I used Dairy Milk chocolate. The flavour is fine but the middle of the cake is soft (as in uncooked) whilst the outside is practically burnt (it had the full cooking time).
Anyone else found this?

all her stuff is crap imo

expatinscotland · 15/04/2006 17:17

No. I find most of Nigella's stuff too faffy to be arsed.

cod · 15/04/2006 17:18

too rich kids odnt liek ti

she claims this cake "is so unstressful to make" but I found it a right fiddle. It's not so rich now that I've substituted the dark chocolate - they couldn't eat more than a moothful last year and I threw half of it away.

expatinscotland · 15/04/2006 17:23

everything of hers is just so fussy. then she throws out poncey twaddle like 'use 00 flour' and i think 'i can't be arsed to go out and buy that' and just find something else to make.

cod · 15/04/2006 17:24

oh the oo flour is a ponce
a dn use 10 billion eggs

expatinscotland · 15/04/2006 17:26

yeah, but only the whites. or the yolks. and then freeze the other bit for use later. right, nigella.

then there's freezing wine in glass sized portions for cooking with later.

but nigella, that would mean defrosting it.

what a PITA.

cupcakes · 15/04/2006 17:35

this one had 6 eggs - 4 of which I had to separate. It was all egss, sugar and loads of chocolate. No flour, baking powder etc.

Just seen this Cupcakes,I made it last year and this and didnt have any bother with it.(Although anything with whipped egg whites normally reduces me to tears)
I make it with half milk and half plain chocolate for the cake and all milk chocolate for the cream.
Maybe your oven is a bit on the hot side, trying reducing it by 20 degrees.

I haven't made this cake, but I do find her cooking times are screwed up! Never trust the cooking times...
